Injured at work and signed off work? Worried you may lose your job?

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) report  that there “has been a 31% increase in reported injuries at work in the last quarter of 2022.”

APIL also confirm “Your employer has a legal responsibility to protect your health, safety and welfare at work. Over 100,000 serious accidents at work are reported every year in the UK.

"Injuries caused by accidents at work can include slips, trips, machinery-caused injuries, chemical induced injuries, falls from height such as scaffolding or ladders, injuries caused by being hit by moving or falling objects, physical assault. It can also include injuries caused by animals in the workplace such as farm animals, electricity shocks, fire, explosion or from repetitive working practices.”

If you are seriously injured at work and are signed off work for a long period of time with reduced pay, then you should consider the merit of bringing a claim for injury compensation against your employer. The benefits of bringing a claim are:

  • Private rehabilitation can be arranged to assist you to recover from your injuries in the shortest timeframe possible
  • Interim payments can be secured to fund private treatment and replace your lost earnings.
  • The earlier you rehabilitate, the sooner you may be able to return to work.

Your employer is not permitted to terminate your employment if you bring a personal injury claim against them. To do so is unfair and may be in breach of your contract of employment. If your employer attempts to dismiss you then you may also be able to make a successful claim for unfair dismissal.
